Shrewsbury
Llandrinio to Montford Bridge
13.5 miles - 5 to 6 hours
Beginning high up the River Severn across the border in Wales, not far from the highest navigable point, you will meander through a deep narrow river channel working its way through stunning countryside that in places has a jungle-like feel to it. This section is relatively overgrown and has a couple of faster-flowing sections that require a few basic boat handling skills.
This route has the added bonus of a pub lunch stop at the wonderful Royal Hill Inn. On weekends please book a table in advance.
During your route you will come across the confluence of the River Vyrnwy, which provides a great opportunity for you to paddle up its gentle flow and see the ancient 12th Century wooden church of Melverley. After Melverley you will see the historic Crew Green railway bridge and Nesscliffe military training ground!
For the section of this route above Crew Green we require all paddlers to demonstrate suitable competence in your chosen boat to safely navigate the "Upper Narrows".
The route ends back where your car is parked at Montford Bridge.
